Gurjapneet Singh is injured and will be replaced by Dewald Brevis of South Africa for the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Now that the Proteas batsman has been selected the left-arm pacer’s replacement in the squad, he is officially out for the rest of the competition.
Dewald Brevis has participated in 81 Twenty20 matches and amassed 1787 runs, including a career-high 162. He has now played two Twenty20 Internationals for South Africa, having made his debut in 2023. Brevis previously played ten games for the Mumbai Indians (MI). It will cost INR 2.2 crore for him to join CSK.
Fans are giddy about the 21-year-old’s huge clue that was posted on social media on Friday, April 18. After Brevis, also known as “Baby AB,” went unsold at the Mega Auction, fans quickly guessed his potential affiliation with CSK for the remainder of the season after he put a blank yellow post on his Instagram account.
The gifted child left no comments in the caption, but the time and hue of the photo generated rumours that have since been verified.

Brevis’ dominant efforts in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, where he scored 506 runs in just six innings, attracted attention. During the international tournament, he scored two hundreds and three half-centuries, attracting the interest of cricket fans everywhere. Brevis spent two seasons with the Mumbai Indians before being cut before the team’s huge auction last year. At a strike rate of 133.73 and an average of 23, the right-handed batter amassed 230 runs.
Since the five-time winners recently acquired Ayush Mhatre to their roster, this marks Chennai’s second substitution of the season. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad, their mainstay captain, suffered a hairline fracture to his left elbow during one of the current IPL season’s games, necessitating Mhatre’s arrival. The renowned captain MS Dhoni has now taken over the captaincy role.

Chennai’s ambiguity qualification
With only two victories from their first seven games, the team has had a slow start to their IPL 2025 campaign. Their next matchup will be against the Mumbai Indians, and it will take place at the legendary Wankhede Stadium. Notably, the two teams faced off in their respective tournament openers at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. The home team made a good start to the season but then suffered five straight losses. To begin the winning streak, they will be aiming for another victory.
