Prior to the upcoming season, Sussex, a county team, relieved Cheteshwar Pujara of his duties. Pujara’s three-year deal with the team ended since they decided to keep Daniel Hughes and Jayden Seales on staff. Interestingly, the 2024 County Championship Division II saw six games played by the outstanding Indian batsman before Hughes joined the squad. During his three years with the squad, he has led them multiple times and scored 501 runs in nine innings at an average of 62.22.
In contrast, Hughes scored 48 runs in the one game he played for Sussex in the county championship. He’ll be available for every championship game in the upcoming season, in addition to playing in T20 Vitality Blast. He scored 45 runs in his lone game for the Southern Brave in The Hundred 2024. Playing 14 matches for Sussex in the Vitality Blast, the 35-year-old made 560 runs at a strike rate of 170.21.
“We are all thrilled that Dan will be returning for the entirety of the upcoming season, even if taking over from Cheteshwar pujara is not an easy feat.
On and off the pitch, Dan has been outstanding for us’, Farbrace was cited on Sussex’s official website. The head coach for the county went on, “He has brought a wealth of experience to the dressing room and has seriously helped some of our young batters with the development of their games.”

Jayden Seales took 38 wickets at an average of 25.29 while playing in Sussex’s opening seven Championship games of the year. Farbrace called him “a fabulous bowler and a high-quality person” after he recently performed admirably for the West Indies against England in the two-match Test series.
“He repeatedly shown in the early part of the season that he runs hard on every ball, regardless of the circumstances or the game’s state. Each day, he offered himself a significant possibility of success, according to Farbrace.
