Glenn Maxwell, one of Punjab Kings’ best players, has been having yet another dismal season, raising concerns about his form even if the team is winning games in the ongoing IPL 2025. Only 41 runs at an average of 8.20 and a strike rate of just 100 have been scored by Maxwell in the six games he has played thus far.
India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has spoken out about Maxwell’s dismal performance in the lucrative event. Not only did Pujara say that his style of play has not changed, but he also cautioned him to get up before the team decides to bench him.
He hasn’t altered his attitude to the IPL or his batting style over the years. In several instances, he has been a bit casual. He is no different now than he was perhaps eight or 10 years ago. “I’m a little critical, but as a player, you have to wake up sometimes,” Pujara stated on the Time Out show.
“You have to understand that you are getting a chance to participate in a franchise where there are competing interests. Additionally, there are moments when a player can relax and not care about the situation. There’s a thin line between being casual and only attempting to pull yourself together while performing, but I’m sure he wants to do it. He must strike a balance. “If it were up to anyone else, he wouldn’t have been in the starting lineup, but he’s getting that chance because he’s Maxwell,” Pujara, a former PBKS player, continued.
Hard to understand Glenn Maxwell workings: Sanjay Bangar,
Pujara wasn’t the only person to provide his thoughts on the all-rounder from Australia; former PBKS coach Sanjay Bangar also offered his thoughts on the cricketer’s style of play in the IPL. The role of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who were with Maxwell in the RCB squad in recent years, has been explained by Bangar, who has stated that Maxwell’s performances depend on the batters surrounding him.
Determining Maxwell’s methods, whether they are consistent or not, is a challenging task. During his three years at RCB, he was surrounded by a few hitters who diverted attention from him. According to Bangar, “Faf du Plessis and Virat [Kohli] weren’t really the main guys the team looked up to for miracles.”
“Those powerful performances were what he was supposed to do, and he was doing it very well. “He’s batting a little lower down the order here in a new role [at PBKS], and they still view him as a primary overseas batter, which wasn’t the case with RCB,” the former India batsman continued.
