The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is currently in action, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has lost all three of their games at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. While some coaches and players have expressed dissatisfaction about the lack of surfaces they desire, Devdutt Padikkal has blamed “coincidence” for the dismal home results.
The players have bonded well and demonstrated the capacity to recover from setbacks, according to Padikkal. On Sunday, April 20, in Mullanpur, they decisively defeated Punjab Kings by a margin of seven wickets. The southpaw stated that the Bengaluru-based team will need to find a method to win games at home after he scored his first half-century of the season.
The fact that our [five] victories have occurred away from home is, to be honest, really a coincidence. However, we have played some excellent cricket all tournament long. We’ve really bonded as a team, and it’s evident, you know. Every time we lose, we bounce back quickly and manage to win games. We need to keep up the momentum and figure out a way to win at home as well. Padikkal stated during the news conference following the game that “the Chinnaswamy deserves some wins as well.”
A batting unit must be able to read the pitch quickly enough: Devdut Padikkal
Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium has a reputation for being a high-scoring ground. It hasn’t been the same this season, though. During their 14-overs-a-side match, RCB scored 169 for 8, 163 for 7, and 95 for 9 after batting first each time they played there.
According to Padikkal, it’s critical to read the pitch as quickly as feasible. The IPL 2025 top-order hitter acknowledged that RCB hasn’t been able to do so. On Thursday, April 24, when they face the Rajasthan Royals at the Chinnaswamy again, he assured the home crowd that the players would try to perform better.
The pitch has nothing to do with that, in my opinion. Reading the pitch quickly is crucial for batting units, and I believe we haven’t done it as good as we could. Our performance has fallen short. However, the IPL is a tournament that includes that. It is seldom without difficulties. We must figure out a solution because this is a challenge for us as a team. We’ll work together and devise a strategy for the upcoming home match, as we undoubtedly have some skilled and seasoned cricket players in the squad,” Padikkal stated.
Prior to the game, Punjab was asked to bat first and scored 157/6 in their 20 overs. RCB responded by chasing the mark with seven balls remaining, thanks to crucial half-centuries from Virat Kohli (73*) and Padikkal (61).
