Chris Gayle, a former cricketer for the West Indies, praised India’s mainstays, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, ahead of the forthcoming Test series in England. According to sources, the Board is not going to include them in the squad, which has led to rumours about their exclusion from the team.
Although there is currently no confirmation, there were reports that Rohit will not play in the series due to his current form. Kohli, though, is scheduled to participate in the Test series. In December 2024, the red-ball skipper had a hard time scoring runs in Australia and rested for the final game. Additionally, Kohli’s entire series wasn’t very excellent.
In the remainder of the series, Virat Kohli struggled with the bat despite hitting a century in the opening game.
This time, he only managed to score 190 runs in ten innings, despite having an amazing record in Australia. Chris Gayle advocated for both batters, stating that they ought to be given an opportunity in the forthcoming series.
“These players still have a lot of cricket in them, so of course they are still on the scene. Don’t force them away. We really need them men in the cricket world. The fact that they are still around is fantastic. International cricket still benefits greatly from their presence. Chris Gayle, as cited by NDTV, stated, “There will always be someone after, but the longer they are around, the better for the cricketing world.”
Kohli scored 382 runs at an average of 22.87 in 10 games during the 2024–25 season, including a century and a half, while Rohit only managed 164 runs in eight games at an average of 10.93, with a best score of 52.
In order to give the players adequate time to recover, reassemble, and prepare for the series, the England trip starts in Leeds on June 20, 26 days after the IPL concludes.
