England pacer Chris Woakes said that the team has particular tactics in place to counter India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who got two centuries in the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Chris Woakes had a poor performance in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, taking only one wicket.
Woakes admitted that the Indian batsman adds excitement to the format with his aggressive style of play in response to Pant’s heroics. He also stated that England is likely to convene a meeting to discuss comprehensive plans for countering the left-hander in the forthcoming tests.
“Rishabh is a player whose actions are unpredictable. He’s a player who keeps you on your toes, who can be thrilling to bowl against and also put you on the back foot as a bowler,” Woakes remarked in the pre-match news conference on Monday, June 30.
“It’s always great to be a part of the game when he’s on the crease. He got two hundreds at Headingley. Hopefully, we’ll catch him earlier in this one. We (the bowling group) haven’t met yet, but there will be discussions about some of the players we faced last week,” he said.
England have named their playing XI for the second Test of the series at Edgbaston. Jofra Archer was added to the squad following the conclusion of the first Test, although he was not named in the final XI for the Birmingham match. The second Test is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, July 2.
