Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir led the accolades for veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, describing his effort in the just concluded Lord’s Test as an amazing fight. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls, demonstrating resilience even as India lost by 22 runs in the game, resulting in a 1-2 deficit in the five-match series.
India was chasing a 193-run target, and its top order imploded, with the top eight batsmen lasting fewer than 40 overs each. But Jadeja, who came in at number seven, stood strong among the rubble, batting with tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj with incredible poise.
“It was an incredible fight. “The fight from Jaddu was absolutely brilliant,” stated Gambhir in a video titled ‘The MVP ft. Ravindra Jadeja’ that was posted on the BCCI website on Friday, July 18.
Jadeja held the crease for more than four hours, demonstrating great control as India tried to win the crucial Test match. Bumrah supported him with a tough 5 off 54 balls, while Siraj battled 30 deliveries for 4 runs before falling to Shoaib Bashir for the final wicket. India were eventually bowled out for 170 after 74.5 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja’ defence is very solid. Ryan Ten Doeschate
Meanwhile, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate appreciated Jadeja’s unwavering serenity and the strength of his defensive style under pressure.
“His batting has reached a new level. In the last two Tests, he provided stability and calmness to the dressing room. I’ve been watching him for years and how he’s improved his game; his defence is rock solid, and he looks like a proper batter,” ten Doeschate remarked in the video.
Furthermore, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, a former Saurashtra teammate of Jadeja, praised the all-rounder’s patience and poise under duress.
“I’ve always believed he had the ability to handle pressure. With so much expertise, he usually brings something that the team requires in each hard situation. “Really, really valuable to the team,” Kotak stated.
Siraj, the right-arm pacer, echoed the same, emphasising Jadeja’s great worth as an all-rounder.
“It’s very difficult to find a player like him, and we’re fortunate to have him in our team,” added Siraj, who was the last wicket to fall at Lord’s.
During the post-match news conference, Indian captain Shubman Gill pondered on Jadeja’s influence and acknowledged his critical role in the game. With England leading the series 2-1, India must win the fourth Test, which begins on July 23 in Manchester, to keep their prospects of winning the series alive.
“He is one of the most valuable players in India. He brings a skill set that includes batting, bowling, and fielding. He is quite rare. Jaddu bhai’s batting performance was quite impressive. “The character and courage they demonstrated was incredible,” Gill remarked.
