The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 38 runs on Friday, May 2, which further complicates their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. Even if the Orange Army wins all four of their remaining games, their prospects appear dim.
The finalist team from the previous season put on another sluggish display in the Ahmedabad match, seeming listless in the field during the first innings, which allowed the Titans to score a lot of runs and set a lofty target of 225. Harbhajan Singh and Deep Dasgupta, commentators, brought up SRH’s Maldivian holiday when criticising the Hyderabad team’s performance.
“SRH appears to be physically present in Ahmedabad, but their minds are still in the Maldives.” Dasgupta stated on Star Sports that “we were talking about ordinary bowling, but the fielding has been quite ordinary too.”
In addition to criticising the fielding, Harbhajan brought up their Maldivian vacation.
“This ball was supposed to be stopped. Though not as well as he would have in the Maldives, the fielder has done some diving. The four-time IPL champion continued, “They must have jumped and dived around a lot in swimming pools there, but they can’t see that on the ground here.”

Let down a few more catches and were the guilty party: Pat Cummins
Apart from the commentators, SRH skipper Pat Cummins did not seem pleased with the fielding efforts from the team as well and expressed it in the post-match presentation after the loss. Cummins also complimented the GT batters on how they approached the game without taking much risk.
“Our powerplay with the ball wasn’t too great, and we let them get 20-30 runs extra. Let down a few more catches and were the guilty party. They are class batters, they do not do anything outlandish, and they didn’t do anything risky,” Cummins said.
