The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) broke records on the first day of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah by acquiring the stunning batsman-wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for an unprecedented INR 27 crore. The previous record of INR 24.75 crore set by Mitchell Starc was surpassed by this largest bid in IPL history.
Nicholas Pooran is already a kept player for the team, demonstrating their desire to develop a core group of leaders. With the addition of international players David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram, who all contributed invaluable captaincy experience, LSG’s acquisitions continued.
Along with acquiring fast bowler Avesh Khan for INR 9.75 crore, the team also expanded their roster by adding promising talent Aryan Juyal and big hitter Abdul Samad. With at least six spots to fill and a remaining prize of INR 14.85 crore, LSG entered on Day 2. Owner Sanjiv Goenka had previously stated that the team’s emphasis would be on improving their spin and batting in the death overs. LSG will try to make good use of the one Right to Match (RTM) card that is still in possession, as there are numerous places to fill.
On the second day of the auction, Indian pacer Akash Deep was acquired by LSG for an incredible INR 8 crore. Deep will strengthen the bowling assault for Lucknow with this. The side acquired some uncapped players, which increased the size of their shopping bag. Later, at a reasonable price, the team also decided to acquire Shahbaz Ahmed, a gifted all-round player. In order to regain the services of West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph, the Super Giants also use the Right-to-Match Card.
