Following their consecutive victories to begin their ODI World Cup campaign, Pakistan was one of the favorites to make it to the semi-finals. The Babar Azam-led team lost their next four games straight, though, which put them in danger of dropping out of the standings. After they ultimately placed fifth, Babar Azam deputy Shadab Khan took ownership of their subpar performance in the competition and emphasized their inability to adjust to modern cricket.
Since neither of them could make an impression, the bowling department was unable to reach its full potential. After his repeated failures in the ODI World Cup, Shadab Khan himself was once shown the door. Regarding his individual performance, the all-rounder said he let the team and himself down throughout the competition, and he hopes Pakistan will perform better in the future.
“I have failed myself; as a bowler, I did not perform to my full ability, which has affected the team’s performance. This is not how you win tournaments, that’s for sure. It’s over for us in the semifinals. Everyone—coaches, players, and support staff—is dissatisfied.
“We have to do better in each of the three areas whenever a tournament gets underway. NDTV cited Shadab as saying, “As a team, we failed to adapt to modern-day cricket.”
Shadab Khan supports Babar Azam as Pakistan’s captain.
Babar Azam’s weak leadership during the ODI World Cup has drawn criticism from numerous former cricket players and commentators. They demanded a change in leadership for the Pakistani team because they were surprised by some of Babar’s decisions. However, Shadab feels that Babar shouldn’t be held accountable because none of the players competed to the best of their abilities. Calling it a “cultural difference,” he anticipates that it will alter in the near future.
This is an illustration of cultural diversity. It is the captain’s victory alone that counts when we win. However, the captain bears full responsibility for the loss in a losing effort. Shadab stated, “This ought to alter.
