The Bombay High Court has ordered a family court in Bandra, Mumbai, to have a final hearing on the divorce suit that cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife Dhanashree Verma filed on February 5, 2025. The pair, who took the marriage oath in 2020, have been living apart since June 2022. By March 20, the Bandra court will make a final decision about their plea.
Following their amicable divorce agreement, the husband agreed to give Dhanashree a permanent alimony payment of INR 4.75 crore. The request to waive the six-month statutory cooling-off period before a separation is ultimately imposed was filed with the same agreement. However, Chahal’s unpaid alimony had compelled the family court to dismiss the plea, which the High Court bench led by Justice Madhav Jamdar has since reversed on Wednesday, expediting the divorce decision.
Chahal’s participation in the forthcoming Indian Premier League 2025 has prompted the decision to expedite the case. Actually, Chahal will play as a premier spinner for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League. In an effort to get ready for the top T20 league, he has already joined the team’s training camp after being purchased by them for INR 18 crore. It is unclear if the leg-spinner will show up for the court hearing on Thursday because he is now with the squad.
After the IPL, Yuzvendra Chahal will play for his county.
The cricketer from Haryana has been absent from the Indian national team for a while. He was a member of the 2024 T20 World Cup winning team, although he didn’t play a single match and spent the entire competition warming the bench as Rohit Sharma’s team won. Since then, he has continuously played domestic cricket, and his current assignment is the Indian Premier League, where he has taken the most wickets with 205, having played for the Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Chahal will go to the United Kingdom for a county spell with Northamptonshire following the conclusion of the season. The cricketer had played for the team in the One-Day Cup last year, and he had a strong performance that included taking five wickets. The leggie stated his goal for the season is to have Northampton have a similar run.
I’m thrilled to be returning because I had a great time here the previous season. The individuals in that dressing room are amazing, and I am so excited to be a part of it once more. After the announcement, Chahal said, “I hope we can repeat the fantastic cricket we played towards the end of the season and win some games.”
