During Jimmy Adams’ administration, the Cricket West Indies established the women’s Caribbean Premier League and distinct selection panels for women’s and youth teams. They even authorized a Women’s Cricket Transformation Committee to work toward achieving parity for female cricket players.
Cricket Jimmy Adams’ contract expires at the end of June, prompting the West Indies to seek a replacement for him as cricket director. Adams, a former West Indies captain, played in 54 Tests and 127 ODIs for the Windies. In January of 2017, the 55-year-old succeeded Richard Pybus and has held the position for nearly six and a half years. The application deadline for the position is scheduled for June 14.
During his tenure, however, the West Indies men’s team struggled on the field, failing to reach the quarterfinal stages of any ICC tournament since their 2016 T20 World Cup victory in India. Even worse, they finished second-to-last in both the 2019–21 and 2021–23 World Test Championship cycles.
CWI even recently appointed format-specific coaches for the senior men’s team, based on the recommendations of an independent review commission established after the team’s shocking elimination in the first round of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Andre Coley has been appointed as the Tests coach, while Daren Sammy has been appointed to lead the white-ball coaching staff.
Adams reflected on his tenure and thanked his coworkers, stating that it had been a privilege to be a part of Cricket West Indies’s continuous development.
“It has been an honor to be a part of CWI’s ongoing development. Over the past six and a half years, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with a number of remarkable individuals throughout the organization, and I am appreciative of all the support they have provided. ESPNcricinfo quoted Adams as saying, “I wish everyone the best going forward, especially in light of the numerous challenges that exist regionally and globally.”
