Cricket will now be a part of the future Olympic Games in 2028, which will be hosted in Los Angeles, California, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which has formally accepted the recommendation.
At a meeting of the IOC executive board held in Mumbai, the choice was confirmed. On Monday, a formal confirmation is anticipated to be made public.
Notably, there were only 18 sports in 1900, and cricket had its first (and only) appearance at the Olympics. The choice to endorse these sports was decided on October 12 in Mumbai at the IOC executive board meeting. The IOC will vote on the idea during its “Session” that will take place from October 14 to October 16 in Mumbai.
