On Wednesday, April 2, during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s opening home game of the 2025 Indian Premier League season, Rajat Patidar was in the centre for the toss and received a roaring response. When New Zealand’s Danny Morrison, the toss representative, announced Patidar, the new captain of the RCB, the crowd erupted in excitement.
This comes after, at the RCB Unbox Event prior to the current season, former captain and RCB star batsman Virat Kohli urged the home audience to support their new captain and also forecast that the middle-order batsman will hold the role for a long time.
A short while after, Patidar revealed that the home crowd’s affection and support for RCB has been amazing.

The hosts were unfortunate to lose the toss. Fielding first was Shubman Gill’s choice. For most of the opening innings, the choice was warranted. At the end of 20 overs, RCB had scored 169/8. The tourists had the powerplay, taking three wickets while giving up just 38 runs.
The score was steadied by Jitesh Sharma (33 off 21) and Liam Livingstone (54 off 40). In the later portion of his innings, the English batting all-rounder picked up speed. RCB reached the aforementioned total thanks to a driving surge by Tim David (32 off 18) at the business end.
Mohammed Siraj, a former RCB player, was GT’s best player. He managed to capture a valuable three-wicket haul (3/19 in four overs). Another well-known performer was Sai Kishore. The left-arm spinner took a few wickets and let up just 22 runs in his allocated quota.
