On March 28, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a 50-run defeat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Stephen Fleming, the coach of the men in yellow, said that the squad had misread the wickets, which resulted in RCB’s second-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) victory at Chepauk.
At the press conference following the game, the CSK coach asserted that the players struggled to understand the pitch against the Patidar-led squad on Friday.
According to him, the Super Kings haven’t had an advantage at MA Chidambaram Stadium in a few years. He acknowledged that the squad misjudged the effect of the dew and was outplayed by the Royal Challengers.
“We have been telling you for years that Chepauk had no home advantage, and in the past few years, we haven’t been able to read the wickets here. It is therefore not new. It’s really difficult to read,” Fleming said. “We are trying to understand what we get every day, and we don’t know.”
The Super Kings’ loss to Bengaluru was caused by lost catches and a subpar batting performance in the first six overs, which was denounced by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The right-handed batsman asserted that Chennai’s 50-run loss was just a pretext for their Friday loss.
“A bad fielding day cost us a lot of money.” You have to bat a little differently in the powerplay when you’re trying to score 20 additional runs on a wicket that you know will be a little sticky and will halt once the ball gets old. During the post-match presentation, Gaikwad stated, “I’m still happy that we didn’t lose by a large margin and that it was only 50 runs in the end.”
