On Sunday, March 23, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets and five deliveries remaining in Match 3 of the 2025 Indian Premier League. The ‘El Clasico’ was the most evenly matched of the three IPL 2025 games that have been played thus far.
CSK limited their bitter rivals to 155/9 in their 20 overs after choosing to field first. With 31, Tilak Varma had the highest score. To the total, Suryakumar Yadav added 29 runs. Deepak Chahar’s useful 15-ball, 28-run cameo gave MI some late momentum. Noor Ahmad finished with his best IPL bowling numbers, giving up 4/18 in four overs.
Rahul Tripathi was lost early by CSK in the second innings. But after that, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra worked incredibly well together to propel CSK to a position of supremacy at the end of seven overs. MI lost by four wickets despite rookie Vignesh Puthur’s triple-strike in his three overs; the Kiwi opener finished undefeated at a commanding 65* (45).
Key Moments from Match 3 of IPL 2025
1. MS Dhoni turns back the days with lightning-quick stumping
On third delivery of the 11th over, MS Dhoniexecuted a rapid stumping to get rid of Suryakumar. The right-hander failed to read Noor’s googly, missing it by a big margin while stepping down the track in a bid to drive the ball over cover. However, the former CSK skipper whipped off the bails in a blink of an eye to catch him short.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad dazzles with blazing half-century

However, that indecisiveness vanished during Gaikwad’s fiery knock during the run-chase. He made full use of the powerplay, bringing up his half-century off 22 deliveries. He finished with 53 off just 26 balls.
