The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 50 runs in the eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in Chennai’s famous Chepauk Stadium. With CSK winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Bengaluru had a chance to set a difficult first-inning total in the much awaited rivalry match.
With a scorching start of 32 runs off just 16 balls, Phil Salt gave RCB a strong start to their innings. After that, Virat Kohli scored a strong 31 and Devdutt Padikkal added 27 runs. Rajat Patidar put on a remarkable display, smashing 51 runs off of 32 balls to reach his first IPL fifty as captain. Tim David’s explosive cameo, which saw him smash 22 runs off just 8 balls, and Jitesh Sharma’s 12 off 6 gave the inning a last boost. In the end, RCB amassed a commanding 196/7 in the 20 overs they were given.
The Chennai Super Kings lost early wickets in their pursuit, which was frustrating. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper, left for a duck, and Rahul Tripathi only scored five runs. After struggling and managing just 4 runs off of 9 deliveries, Deepak Hooda left CSK reeling at 26/3 in 4.4 overs. Rachin Ravindra, a promising prodigy, scored 41 runs and demonstrated tenacity, but his efforts were insufficient to get CSK back into the game. Even though MS Dhoni’s 30-run effort towards the end was entertaining, the Super Kings were unable to reach the target by a significant margin, managing only 146/8 in their 20 overs.
