CSK paid INR 2.4 crore for Sam Curran at the IPL 2025 mega auction, but Curran is no stranger to the Chennai camp, having already played for the team for two years in 2020 and 2021. He participated in the team’s 2021 championship run and played a total of 15 games for the team throughout those two seasons.
In just one year after winning the Player of the Tournament award in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Curran shown that he had matured as a player during those two seasons. He excelled as a bowler during his first spell with CSK, and the trust that then-captain MS Dhoni placed in him was a major factor in his success.
What’s it like to share a dressing room with the former captain of India? Everyone knows how good Dhoni is as a player on the pitch. Is his personality the same on and off the pitch?
It’s just the guy’s aura. He is always composed and a pleasure to talk to. Curran stated on the Sky Cricket Podcast, “And he never seems to panic.”
Even at the motel, men are continually talking about how he doesn’t close his room. Men go play FIFA, talk cricket, and other games with him. It’s clear that he is unable to leave the hotel much because he is constantly surrounded by people.
Curran went on to discuss how captain Dhoni never chooses to make things more complicated. Curran disclosed that one of Dhoni’s peculiarities is his avoidance of game-related discussions.
This tranquilly [stood out] in him. Meetings are rare for him; training is more about the little things. He will say, “You just need to do this; the pitch will do this.” It’s common for bowlers to get caught in traps. Therefore, it’s incredibly helpful that the captain keeps you calm,” Curran disclosed.
Dhoni remains a member of CSK’s lineup, but Ruturaj Gaikwad will be Curran’s captain in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
