During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Nitish Kumar Reddy attracted attention by showcasing his skills as an all-around seam bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His all-around abilities impressed the Indian team management and selectors, and he went on to make his debut in T20Is and Test matches. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Nitish returned the favour by bowling eight economical overs and smashing a spectacular century.
Prior to the auction, SRH paid INR 6 crore to retain his services. However, the gifted young player has fallen short of his expectations in the current IPL 2025. He has only amassed 131 runs at a strike rate of 113.92 and an average of 21.83 in six innings.
Legendary former South African pacer Dale Steyn, however, is upset that SRH hasn’t employed him with the ball at all in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
“Did SRH simply forget that Reddy is a bowler? on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle: “Has a bit of a golden arm, absolutely worth an over or two.”
“If he’s injured then it’s understandable, but he seems to be batting just fine, so…” In another post, Steyn wrote.

Have SRH just forgotten that Reddy can bowl…?

In his IPL career, Reddy has taken three wickets with a strike rate of 36.33 and an average of 69. But in T20Is, the 21-year-old has a stronger record. In four games, he has taken three wickets with a strike rate of 18 and an average of 23.67.
On Thursday, April 17, Sunrisers fell to the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, their fifth loss in seven IPL 2025 games.
