Daniel Vettori, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), acknowledged that his club has not performed well as a whole in the current Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). To remain in the running for a postseason berth, the 2016 champions need to win all five of their remaining games.
In the nine IPL 2025 games they have played thus far, SRH has only managed to win three and lost six. Following their most recent victory over the Chennai Super Kings, the management decided to send the entire team on a little getaway to the Maldives. They will play the Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 2, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in what should be an exciting match.
The teams that are currently winning have been reliable in all three areas of the game: batting, bowling, and fielding, Vettori noted in a sad tone.
“I don’t believe we’ve assembled whole shows. We have likely failed in at least one aspect of every game. During the pregame press conference prior to the game against the Titans, Vettori stated, “You look at the good teams that are winning right now – they’ve been consistent across the board.”
Daniel Vettori praises young batter Aniket amid SRH’s struggles
While Daniel Vettori expressed his displeasure with SRH’s overall performance, he had words of praise for the 23-year-old Aniket Verma. Making his debut in the ongoing IPL edition, the right-handed batter has scored 190 runs from nine games at an average of 27.14, with a top score of 74.
“In terms of individuals, I’ve been very pleased with Aniket – coming into the side and the IPL for the first time and being able to play a style that’s really suited the team. He’s established himself as one of our key members,” Vettori added.
Gujarat and Hyderabad met earlier in the season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Shubman Gill-led side chased down a 153-run target in 16.4 overs with seven wickets to spare.
