The Delhi Capitals (DC) have selected Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain for the forthcoming Indian Premier League season. This follows on Friday, March 14, when Axar Patel was announced as the team’s captain.
The Delhi Capitals used a fairly inventive social media post to reveal du Plessis’ contribution. In order to announce his capability with his newest team, du Plessis pretended to be on the phone and referred to the Arun Jaitley Stadium as his “home.”

DC paid two crore Indian rupees for Faf du Plessis.
He will have four teams in the prestigious T20 competition with this one. Prior to the massive auction in November 2024, he was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru after three years of service. To improve their top-order batting, DC acquired the former South African captain.
Since declaring his retirement from international competition in 2021, du Plessis has only focused on competing in domestic franchise events. Recently, he played for the Johannesburg Super Kings in the just finished SA20. He led his team to the competition’s elimination round. In ten innings, he collected 286 runs.
The IPL 2025 is slated to start on Saturday, March 22nd. At the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, DC will play the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, March 24, to kick off the season. This location will host the franchise’s initial games. DC will only be able to perform at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in front of the Delhi crowd later in the tournament. With seven victories and as many losses in 14 games the year before, they ended up in sixth place.
