New Delhi, March 6, 2024: The Delhi Capitals women’s team won their fifth WPL 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, making their home debut unforgettable. They defeated the Mumbai Indians by a margin of 29 runs.
The Delhi Capitals reached 192/4 thanks to an unbroken 69-run knockoff of 33 balls from Jemimah Rodrigues and a 38-ball 53 from captain Meg Lanning. Thanks to Jess Jonassen (3/21) and Marizanne Kapp (2/37), the home team then held the Mumbai Indians to 163/8 in 20 overs. They increased their lead at the top of the points table (8 points in 5 matches) with their victory.
In her reflection, Rodrigues said, “I think more than anything else today, it was what I needed to do for the team to get a good score.” Rodrigues won Player of the Match. It never occurred to me that it would be ball 69, a-33.”
“My game was good because I knew what I wanted to do from the very first ball. That truly helped me, since I believe that’s what motivates me and puts me in a fantastic position,” Jemimah Rodrigues continued.
The 23-year-old batter said, “I loved the atmosphere,” when asked about his first-ever home game experience. We played in Mumbai last season, in Bengaluru prior, and now in Delhi, so we are finally able to play on our home field.”
“I get a lot of energy from the crowd and they never fail to get me going.” They cheered and asked for dance moves each time I approached the barrier. It was a pleasant encounter outside,” she said.
On Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, the Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz will play their next WPL 2024 encounter.
