At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals played a thrilling match that ended in the first Super Over of the 2025 Indian Premier League. Mitchell Starc’s outstanding death-over bowling turned the tide of the match in DC’s favour.
The Capitals scored 188 for 5 after being asked to bat first. They got off to an incredible start because to Abhishek Porel’s 49 off 37 balls, which left the Royals’ bowlers in a difficult position. KL Rahul then stabilised the ship with 38 of 32 deliveries, although RR was harmed by Rahul’s heroics in the closing moments.
After captain Axar Patel ended with 34 off 14 balls, including two sixes and four fours, Tristan Stubbs hit an undefeated 34 off only 18 balls to help DC surpass the 175-run milestone. Sandeep Sharma gave up 19 runs in the last over, the most he has given out in a single over this season, but DC managed to reach a manageable goal.
Nitish Rana’s 51 off 28 put the side in a strong position as they chased 189, while Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 51 off 37 balls laid the groundwork. However, Sanju Samson only played 19 balls for his 31 before suffering a side pain and having to retire. Axar arranged for Riyan Parag to leave early, but Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer controlled the asking price. The Royals needed nine runs to win by the time Starc came back for the last over.
The Australian produced five yorkers that were unplayable, displaying his greatest form. His defence of the nine-run mark allowed his team to get back into the game. After 20 overs, the scores were tied at 188, and the match went to the first Super Over of the season in the IPL.
The towering left-arm pacer once more assumed the bowling responsibilities for DC in the Super Over. He gave up just 11 runs with a bouncer that saw Riyan Parag run out in a mix-up, two yorkers, and a slower one. KL Rahul scored seven runs by hitting a four, a two, and a single, ending Delhi’s pursuit quickly. DC finished the chase with a magnificent six, the support of Stubbs at the other end.
Key Moments from DC vs RR, Match 32 of IPL 2025
1. Mitchell Starc plays a big role in DC’s thrilling Super-Over win:
Mitchell Starc produced a masterclass in death bowling to guide the Capitals to a Super Over win against the Royals. With RR needing just nine runs in the final over of their chase, Starc put all his experience to use and delivered big time. He nailed yorkers under pressure, conceding only eight runs and creating a run-out chance on the final ball to push the game into a Super Over.
In the Super Over, RR started strong, racing to 10/0 after three balls. But Starc bounced back. First was Riyan Parag’s run out following a mix-up and then, next ball, another run-out—this time Yashasvi Jaiswal caught short thanks to a brilliant throw from Jake Fraser-McGurk and Starc’s finish at the stumps. He was also awarded the Player of the Match award for his spell.

2. Abhishek-Rahul act as crisis managers
The Capitals began their innings with disappointment, losing both Jake Fraser-McGurk and Karun Nair inside four overs. But Abishek Porel and KL Rahul stitched together a stand that held the team back. The young Porel began by smashing 23 runs off Tushar Deshpande’s over, including a flick for six.
Despite being pushed back by Jofra Archer’s pace, Porel kept playing his shots and reached 49 off 37 balls before falling to Wanindu Hasaranga. Rahul started slowly, scoring 17 off 18, and adapted well to the pitch, finishing with 38 off 32 balls. His two sixes off Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana gave DC a much-needed lift.
#KLRahul latches on to it for a maximum!
Will he rebuild #DC’s innings after a rocky start in the powerplay?
