India lost the final Test in Sydney by six wickets, and they were defeated by Australia 1-3 in the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). With this, Australia officially eliminated India from the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final and recovered the title after a ten-year absence. India lost the momentum after winning the first Test in Perth, and the Australians controlled the rest of the series.
However, a number of allegations surfaced claiming that there was a rift in the dressing room between players and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Additionally, a senior player known as “Mr Fix it” stated that he would like to serve as the interim captain.
In response to the dilemma, former South Africa batter AB de Villiers stated that problems arise when players lose faith in one another.
“I am aware that some rumours have surfaced. It doesn’t surprise me. Fire is present when smoke is present. There have been hostile changing rooms where I’ve been.
In a video that was uploaded to his ‘X’ handle, De Villiers stated, “Especially when you’re not playing the best cricket of your career, you’re missing your family, and you’re away from home.”
“Especially when travelling far from home, the dressing room is essential. At home, it’s simpler. Without a doubt, during the past few weeks in Australia, the Indian team’s dressing room may have lost that a little. You might as well hand over the trophy and sit on the sides when you begin to lose faith in one another. Regarding the Indian dressing room, I don’t have any information. To find out who has been nagging with whom, I’ll wait for the facts,” he continued.
The first team to earn a spot in the WTC Final was South Africa.
Speaking about the World Test Championship final, South Africa defeated Pakistan in the opening Test of the current series to become the first team to advance to the final. Australia’s next two-match Test series journey to Sri Lanka has been a complete bust after they defeated India 3-1.
