Deep Dasgupta, a former Indian cricketer, became critical of Zak Crawley’s time-wasting tactics in the final over on Day 3 of the ongoing five-match series between England and India. He was one of numerous cricketers who remarked on the final-overs drama.
Deep Dasgupta questioned the validity of Crawley’s reaction, believing it did not reflect good on England’s intentions in terms of sportsmanship.
“He removed his glove and summoned the physio, but the ball did not even strike his hand. We’ll surely look into the replay, but the manner he reacted suggested it had hit his fingers. Let them do what they’re doing. It demonstrates their thinking. “We need this spark in the series,” Dasgupta stated on Jiohotstar’s Hindi commentary.
Crawley’s antics irritated Shubman Gill, who confronted the batter, resulting in a brief verbal altercation between the two. The Indian cricket team was not impressed either. They were seen mockingly clapping in front of Crawley, who had to be separated from the Indian skipper by his opening partner Ben Duckett.
What great drama and what a great day: Vaughan
Adding his views on the incident, the former English skipper Michael Vaughan jokingly remarked that it was one of the best acts of time-wasting he had ever seen.
“It’s as good a piece of time-wasting I’ve ever seen. India can’t complain because yesterday Gill was down with the hamstring strain – (KL) Rahul was off the field and wouldn’t have been able to open the batting. Neither team can complain, but what great drama and what a great day. We’re in for a fourth and fifth day that will be fantastic,” commented Vaughan while speaking on BBC’s Test Match Special.
England ended the day on 2/0 after the sole over by Jasprit Bumrah. At the time of writing, they have already lost Duckett (12 off 12) and Ollie Pope (four off 17). Both the wickets were secured by Mohammed Siraj in the opening session of Day 4.
