India is losing the five-match Test series against England 1-2 going into the final two games. The talismanic Jasprit Bumrah played the first Test at Headingley and the third at Lord’s. In the second Test at Edgbaston, the right-arm seamer took a break. Head coach Gautam Gambhir revealed ahead of the series that Bumrah would only be available for three games because management was concerned about his workload, especially after he suffered an injury at the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 after spearheading the bowling attack for the majority of the time.
Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta said that he had heard Bumrah would play the first, third, and fifth Tests against England. However, the cricketer-turned-commentator urged the Gujarat speedster to reconsider his intentions because the fifth Test could lose a lot of significance if India loses the fourth Test in Manchester.
“Yes, Jasprit Bumrah will play in the fourth Test. I’ve heard rumours that he was scheduled to play in the first, third, and fifth tests. However, with India behind by 1-2, the fourth Test is extremely important. “You’d definitely want the world’s best bowler to play,” Deep Dasgupta told India Today.
“There is an eight-day delay between the two tests. It remains to be seen whether the fifth Test is still relevant following the fourth Test, but the fourth Test is really important,” stated Dasgupta.
How has Jasprit Bumrah fared in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025?
Bumrah picked up a five-for in the first innings of the Headingley Test. However, he went wicketless in the second innings as England chased down a 371-run target with five wickets to spare. In the third Test, the 31-year-old picked up his maiden five-for at the Home of Cricket in the first innings. In the second innings, he bagged a couple of scalps.
Bumrah has bowled 86.4 overs in the two Tests so far. He is averaging 21 and has a strike rate of 43.33. Bumrah’s participation in the fourth Test will be an important topic of discussion over the coming few days.
