The Mumbai Indians (MI) acquired pacer Deepak Chahar for an incredible INR 9.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The seam-bowling all-rounder, however, recently stated that he wished to stay with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
With a last bid of INR 9 crore, the Super Kings attempted to set up a reunion with Chahar. The 32-year-old Rajasthani cricket player, however, was a target for Mumbai. Chahar formerly played for the Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiant, and CSK. The Mumbai Indians are his fourth IPL team. Remarkably, Chahar acknowledged that he wanted to stay with the Men in Yellow because of the encouragement he got from the great MS Dhoni throughout his playing days.
Mahi bhai has always been there for me, which is why I decided to attend CSK. However, I knew it would be hard for me to return to CSK because my name was called on the second day of the auction. Despite having a modest purse of INR 13 crore, they bid up to INR 9 crore,” Chahar stated in an interview with Sports Tak.
The name of the Agra-born pacer was mentioned on Monday, November 25, the second day of the massive auction. Only INR 13 crore was left in CSK’s pocketbook at that point, having spent the majority of their money. The pacer acknowledged that he was aware that the five-time champions would find it difficult to re-sign him.
“I had already decided it would be challenging. Because my name appeared first last year, returning to CSK was simpler,” he stated.
Deepak Chahar left the Chennai Super Kings.
Having participated in 81 IPL matches, Deepak Chahar has taken 77 wickets at an average of 28.84. He will play for the Mumbai Indians with players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma. The veteran athlete would like to have a successful season and make a solid case for India’s return.
