While the batters have fared commendably, the bowlers have also chipped in. The pace troika of Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah has made life difficult for the opposition batters.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are on a splendid run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After winning six games in a row, the five-time champions are sitting pretty at the top of the points table.
After Mumbai’s thumping 100-run win against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Thursday, May 1, Chahar explained how he is benefiting from Bumrah and Boult’s company, both on and off the field.
“When you are bowling with world-class partners, it becomes easy for you, because if you have a bad over, they are there to back you up by chipping in with breakthroughs. It then becomes easy for me to come and bowl to the new batter,” he said as quoted by MI’s official website.
“These guys have done well in international cricket, and that experience is helping me. When you bowl as a group, it becomes difficult for the opposition,” Chahar added.
Deepak Chahar mentioned the team’s collective effort, which has helped them bounce back remarkably in the 10-team tournament.
“When you are performing as a team and you have confidence, then you can take some extra time to settle in. So, I think it is the collective teamwork that was on display,” he added.
“I think it is good to be on top. When you finish in the top two, you get an extra chance. Also, the momentum is with us. As a player and as a team, you try to focus on one game at a time without thinking about the result,” the 32-year-old, who took the wicket of Vaibhav Suryavanshi inside the powerplay, said about his team reaching the top of the table.
Mumbai Indians posted 217/2 in their 20 overs after Rajasthan Royals opted to bowl first. Ryan Rickelton (61) and Rohit Sharma (53) slammed exhilarating half-centuries before Suryakumar Yadav (48*) and Hardik Pandya (48*) added an unbeaten 94-run stand off 44 balls to take the visitors to the daunting total.
In reply, Rajasthan folded for 117 in 16.1 overs as Boult and Karn Sharma picked up three wickets each while Bumrah bagged a couple. Hardik and Chahar contributed by accounting for a wicket each.
