On Saturday, February 15, the Delhi Capitals Women and Mumbai Indians Women faced off in Match 2 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.W chose to field first after winning the toss.
The dangerous Hayley Matthews was dismissed for a duck in the opening over by right-arm pacer Shikha Pandey. After laying the groundwork with a steady 32-run partnership between opener Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt, Pandey dismissed Bhatia for 11 runs.
Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed after smashing her way to a respectable 42 runs off 22 balls, including three sixes and four boundaries. She and Sciver-Brunt put together a 73-run combination off 40 balls, which gave the batters the opportunity to follow and maybe raise the innings’ total. But that didn’t take place.
Every batter who came after him scored in the single digits. Sciver-Brunt battled alone to score 13 boundaries and end on 80* from 59 balls. In the last over, MI-W was all out for 164. With stats of 2/14 in her four overs, Pandey was the most impressive bowler for DC-W.
Delhi Capitals-W responded by launching the pursuit with a bang.
With a scorching 43 runs off of 18 balls, Shafali Verma assumed responsibility for scoring runs quickly. Verma had solid company at the other end from captain Meg Lanning (15 off 19). Sadly for DC-W, both collapsed quickly after one another. Jemimah Rodrigues was removed for two runs because she was unable to get going. After 7.5 overs, the Delhi-based team slumped to 66/3.
Important cameos were made by batters who came after. Niki Prasad (35 off 33) and Sarah Bryce (21 off 10) were the two most notable among them. The pendulum never stopped swinging. When two runs were required off two balls in the final over, it was a crucial time. Prasad got caught in the middle when he chose to go for the glory shot.
Arundhati Reddy, ranked tenth, chipped the ball in the cover area on the final ball. Harmanpreet quickly threw at the keeper’s end to perhaps cause a run out, but he was unable to get there in time to make the grab. The third umpire thought the hitter had just made her ground, and the call was extremely close.
In the end, DC-W prevailed by two wickets. With statistics of 2/21, Amelia Kerr was MI-W’s best bowler.
Here’s how X reacted to the thriller –
Have misunderstood the rules? Were those 2 run outs…out?

Another nice game of #WPL2025 . Mumbai have to regret some of the shots at the back end which caused them to leave those 5 deliveries unused in their batting innings. Nice game though
