Dhanashree Verma, a choreographer, performer, and social media star, has finally spoken out against the trolls and harsh labels she has received since her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal earlier this year. After months of silence, she confronted the negative.
The 28-year-old is presently appearing on Ashneer Grover’s reality show Rise and Fall, and she spoke about the labels that online critics have assigned to her.
Notably, Dhanashree Verma and Chahal married in December 2020, however they divorced in March 2025.
The breakup sparked internet bullying, with the actress being targeted and labelled as a gold digger. On the day of their divorce, Chahal wore a “be your own sugar daddy” T-shirt, which drew a lot of attention. While Chahal has talked publicly about the divorce since then, Dhanashree has only recently done so. On Rise and Fall, Dhanashree mocked the gold-digger stereotype.
“Everyone have their respect in their own hands, I could also disrespect if I wanted to. You think I don’t have things to say as a woman. He was my husband, I respected him even when I was married, and I have to respect the fact, I was married to him. When you’re in a marriage, you’re responsible for the other person’s respect too,” she said.
Despite the trolling, she revealed in a vlog with Farah Khan that she remains on cordial terms with Chahal.
“Both have accepted everything gracefully, and moved on, and now we wish well for each other. I am in touch with Yuzi also on messages. He used to call me maa, he is sweet only,” she said.
However, she also responded to Chahal’s earlier suggestion on a podcast that their relationship had turned fake.
“There is a reason why we say personal life. It has to be private. A coin has two sides. Just because I am not speaking doesn’t give anybody the power to take advantage of that. It’s done and dusted, please move on,” she said on Humans of Bombay.
