The MI batter chose the DRS only a few milliseconds after the 15-second countdown went off, making it a contentious moment. The great batter was given the opportunity to take the review, which gave him new life, because the on-field umpires failed to notice.
Fazalhaq Farooqi was hit for a boundary by Rohit in the second over of MI’s innings. The left-arm pacer ran on a solid length and made a good return. However, the umpires proceeded with the DRS and continued their procedure. As the bowler had not stepped over the line, and there was no bat involved, the third umpire asked for the ball tracking. It was evident that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, and the third umpire hence asked the on-field umpire to reverse his decision.
Fans have posted conflicting thoughts on social media in response to the contentious call. While some believed that the star hitter did not take the DRS in time, others thought that a slight variation in the time frame might not have any bearing. Despite his poor start, Rohit bounced back nicely and scored his third fifty in the previous four games.
The great batsman accelerated from his end after scoring 12 runs in 16 balls. It helped him that Rickelton was doing well on the other end. Together, they scored 116 runs in 11.5 overs as the opening partnership. Rohit struck nine fours in his 53 runs in 36 balls. At a strike rate of 147.22, he delivered his knock.
