Right now, it appears that Faf du Plessis, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who is now on the losing side in the match, needs to take some time off.
Almost all of the players involved need a break from the brutal power-hitting that every other batter steps up to the crease after a match like the one that happened in Match 30 of the 2024 Indian Premier League. An incredible 549 runs were scored in the entire match, making it a game the bowlers would soon forget.
Du Plessis’ Royals suffered their fifth straight loss and their sixth in their last seven games after losing by a slim margin of 25 runs in the grand scheme of things. A further aggravating factor is that, out of all the rival teams, RCB has the worst net run rate, ranking ninth.
During the post-game interview, the RCB captain expressed his extreme confusion regarding the total number of runs scored in the match. Additionally, he acknowledged that the strategies developed in the locker rooms and on game days were ineffective.
“The number of runs scored today is insane—a world record.” I don’t think 270 is average. Bowling on a day such as today is difficult. Faf du Plessis remarked following the game, “We tried a few things behind closed doors, and they weren’t really working.”

“When your self-esteem is poor, it might be difficult to hide from others in cricket. That was pretty tough out there for the quick bowlers. We have a couple areas that require attention, much like the batting viewpoint. Make sure that after powerplay, the run rate doesn’t decrease. It is a result of how the game has changed. When it came to the run chase, the lads raised their hands and never gave up. It was encouraging to see that we had some fighting left in us. From a bowling standpoint, thirty to forty runs was a touch excessive,” he said.
The captain of the RCB also stated that, having had no involvement whatsoever in cricket, the team as a whole needed to reorganize by taking a break. He added that it can feel like your brain is about to explode when things aren’t going your way. When the team gets back together to practice for the upcoming game, he also stresses the importance of being prepared.
