India won the series 3-0. Dinesh Karthik, a veteran wicketkeeper-batter, believes that the decision to appoint two captains for different formats will depend on how well India performs in the upcoming One-Day International World Cup. The management of the team has not yet made any official decision regarding the appointment of two captains for different formats.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Team India delivered an outstanding performance in the just completed One-Day International (ODI) series that was played at home against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The home team won both series 3-0 and climbed to the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings as a result of their dominance. However, in the most condensed edition, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been taking the helm for Team India. Earlier this month, Hardik guided India to victory in the series against Sri Lanka, demonstrating his considerable value as a leader in the process.
“If the opportunity arises, there’s no reason not to. However, at this time it would be inappropriate for me to state that for two reasons.
First, after this tournament, India will not play another Twenty20 match until the 2023 World Cup. After the IPL, they will compete against the West Indies. Dinesh Karthik mentioned on Cricbuzz that after the competition is over, “I think we will know exactly where things are,” and he is correct.
“We may very well see a potential of split captaincy, I believe the opportunity will present itself at that point in time. If Rohit Sharma‘s team doesn’t go on to accomplish something extraordinary there, we could very well see a chance of split captaincy.
In contrast, if Rohit is successful in his endeavours, “we will all want to think differently and offer him a crack at the 2024 T20 World Cup if he himself is willing to play that,” he said. Rohit is currently on track to achieve something very remarkable.
The wicketkeeper-batsman continued by praising Hardik’s captaincy and stating that he has done a “phenomenal job” in the T20Is played against Sri Lanka. He also referred to Hardik’s performance as “outstanding.”
“At this point in time, it is my opinion that Hardik has performed an outstanding amount of work. The Twenty-Twenty match that was played versus Sri Lanka in Mumbai is a good example of this.
That was a very enjoyable match. On a day with very little dew, the team put in a fantastic effort and was successful in stopping Sri Lanka for 160. Dinesh Karthik remarked on how impressively he demonstrated his skills as a captain in that situation.
Regarding Hardik, the all-rounder is presently leading Team India in the Twenty20 International series that is currently being played against New Zealand. On Friday, the visitors won the opening match of the series by a score of 21 runs against the hosts.
