The former Delhi Capitals player Dinesh Karthik reportedly disclosed that Axar Patel will be captaining the team in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). On the other hand, the franchise has not formally confirmed this.
Axar joined the Capitals in 2019. When he had to replace Rishabh Pant during one of the games last season, he gained experience in managing the team. Before the IPL 2025 big auction, the Capitals paid an incredible INR 18 crore to retain the Gujarati left-arm spin bowling all-rounder. However, KL Rahul, who was acquired at the auction for INR 14 crore, will be playing as a specialist hitter for the first time since the 2020 season as a result of his selection as captain.
“Best wishes for India’s vice-captaincy to Axar Patel. A good chance for him. He will also serve as captain of the Delhi Capitals. He has a great chance to take the lead and set an example here. He’s also been doing that for Gujarat.
So, good luck to, him” Dinesh Karthik stated during the Hey CB with DK show.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the team for the forthcoming five-match Twenty20 International series against England, and Axar was selected as the team’s first vice-captain. Rahul has, however, managed two IPL teams in the past.
Before leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022, he led Punjab in the IPL 2020 and 2021. For three seasons in a row, he led LSG. In the past several IPL seasons, Rahul has batted at the top of the order. In ODI cricket, he bats for India at number five. How the Capitals management uses him in the forthcoming season will be intriguing to watch.
