In London, Indian vice captain Rishabh Pant was seen watching Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov square off in Round 4 of the Wimbledon 2025 competition. Currently in London for the third Test match against England at Lord’s, which begins on July 10, he took a break to play tennis.
Known for his daring and unconventional stroke play in cricket, Rishabh Pant praised tennis great Novak Djokovic, calling him a guy who might emulate his own bold style of play. With a decisive 336-run victory at Edgbaston, India tied the Test series 1-1. This was the visitors’ first Test success at the stadium.
It’s interesting to note that Rishabh Pant stated he believes Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz would win the Wimbledon trophy this year. In the semi-final, Alcaraz will take against American Taylor Fritz after defeating Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals.
I feel compelled to back Alcaraz. I believe he will win Wimbledon. My prediction is that. It doesn’t matter; the winner will be the one who plays the greatest tennis.
Rishabh Pant told Star Sports, “I am confident that Djokovic can execute my shots.”
Rishabh Pant also revealed his lifelong love for tennis great Roger Federer, stating that as a child, Federer’s famous backhand served as a huge source of motivation for him. Furthermore, the Indian batsman-wicketkeeper mentioned their similar on-field personalities to convey a feeling of camaraderie with Nick Kyrgios.
“When we first started, I suppose Roger Federer was my favourite player because I always found inspiration in his backhand. But Djokovic has been outstanding at the same time as sport is changing. Because of the way he plays and the fact that he enjoys his game, I think Nick Kyrgios (who has Pant’s charisma) is one guy I used to really enjoy watching,” Pant continued.
Pant, meanwhile, has been batting brilliantly, amassing 342 runs at an outstanding average of 85.50 across four innings, including two hundreds and a half-century. On July 10, when India plays England in the third Test at Lord’s, he will return to action.
