The South African twins Duan Jansen and Marco Jansen are the first twin combination to play in the Indian Premier League‘s history. There have been several siblings in the tournament thus far, but never a pair of twins.
Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan, Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel, Michael Hussey and David Hussey, Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh, Brendon McCullum and Nathan McCullum, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Bravo, Siddarth Kaul and Uday Kaul, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, and Sam Curran and Tom Curran have all played in the cash-rich league.
These sibling pairs participated in the IPL for their respective teams and were frequently seen competing against one another to advance their teams. The most famous of these duels occurred when the Pathan brothers squared off against one another and Irfan, a swing bowler, attempted to slip past the outer edge of his older brother’s bat.
With Duan Jansen IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the South African twin pair became the first twin pair in IPL history to play.
Duan’s IPL debut was unremarkable, as he conceded 53 runs in four overs and could only take the wicket of Rinku Singh. If he is given a longer run in the season, he will strive to improve his performance.
In contrast, Marco Jansen has performed exceptionally well for Sunrisers Hyderabad so far this season. Each of the two games he has played for them this season, he has taken two wickets. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, he captured 2/16 against Punjab Kings and then 2/37 against KKR.
With two victories out of four games played thus far in the current season, SRH is ranked eighth with a record of two victories out of four.
