Dushmantha Chameera demonstrated incredible agility and game knowledge by taking a spectacular catch off his own bowling in the 2025 Asia Cup match between India and Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday, September 26. The 33-year-old used his brilliance on the pitch to eliminate India’s dangerous Hardik Pandya in the first innings.
To begin the 17th over of the innings, Dushmantha Chameera delivered a fast delivery that targeted Hardik’s body.
The Baroda all-rounder attempted to hit it for a six to the onside. However, the ball was not short enough for the pull shot. Hardik only managed to top-edge the ball to the gap between midwicket and mid-on.
Chameera, a terrific athlete, called early and raced to the ball to make the catch. He kept his eyes on the ball while running to his right side and had to dive at the finish to make the difficult catch. This was a significant wicket for Sri Lanka because Hardik’s ability to go crazy in the death overs is widely recognised.
India eventually concluded on 202/5 after being asked to bat first. Chameera allowed 40 runs in his four overs. Abhishek Sharma top-scored for India with a 31-ball 61, while Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Axar Patel contributed useful knocks.
