During the second game of the five-match series against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, English T20I captain Jos Buttler led the run-scoring charts for hitters against India in T20Is. Buttler scored 68 (44) and 45 (30) in the first and second matches, respectively, to lead the visitors in both games.
The star batsman beat India by 600 runs in T20Is during Buttler’s performance in Chennai. At an outstanding strike rate of 146.87, he has amassed 611 runs in 21 innings at an average of 35.94. He surpassed Nicholas Pooran’s 592-run total while batting yesterday.
Those were the same number of runs scored in an innings by Jos Buttler Caribbean counterpart.
At Chepauk, the stumper-batter appeared ready for a big one. But with 10.3 overs remaining in his innings, he was caught at the deep midwicket boundary of a delivery from Axar Patel.
Below is the list of the batters with the most runs against India in T20Is:
No. | Player | Innings | Runs |
1 | Jos Buttler (England) | 21 | 611 |
2 | Nicholas Pooran (West Indies) | 20 | 592 |
3 | Glenn Maxwell (Australia) | 21 | 574 |
4 | David Miller (South Africa) | 22 | 524 |
5 | Aaron Finch (Australia) | 18 | 500 |
Despite Butter’s impressive performances, England lost both games. After only managing to score 132 runs, the visitors were given a seven-wicket thrashing in the series opener, which was an absolute batting display.
However, yesterday’s game was a far better performance. At one stage in the run-chase, England actually had India by the scruff of the neck. Nevertheless, with just four deliveries remaining, England lost by a slim margin of two wickets.
