In the first Test of the three-match series, England easily defeated Tom Latham’s New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The opposition was bundled to 348 runs by the visitors, who chose to field first after winning the toss. Glenn Phillips’ 58, Kane Williamson’s 93, and Latham’s 47 drove New Zealand’s batting. Together, pacer Brydon Carse and spinner Shoaib Bashir took eight wickets for the Three Lions, making them formidable opponents.
England’s batsmen responded with a powerful display, taking a commanding 151-run lead after being bowled out for 499. Harry Brook’s 171 was the highlight for the visitors. There were also some productive contributions from other batters. All ten of the hosts’ wickets were taken by the pacers.
After losing their openers in rapid succession, the BlackCaps had a rough start to their second innings. However, Daryl Mitchell and Williamson managed to stabilize the sinking ship. Although both right-handers attempted to form a strong partnership, the England bowlers caused chaos. Other than these two, none of the other Kiwi batters contributed much, which ultimately resulted in the team being limited to 254.
On the fourth day, the England team triumphed by eight wickets after the batters, led by Jacob Bethell’s fifty, chased down the easy goal. Carse took ten wickets during the game, including a six-fer in the second innings, and was named Player of the Match. The next game of the three-match series will take place in Wellington, where the Kiwis are ahead 1-0.

Convincing win for England in a dominant display over New Zealand. Chasing 104 and chased it with ease. Jacob bethel showing why he’s been talked about so much top scoring in the 4th innings with a bruising 50 not out off 37 balls. England win by 8 wickets.
