The lineup for the upcoming second T20I in Chennai has been altered by the England squad. After the heartbreaking seven-wicket loss in Kolkata, the visitors will be looking to bounce back.
In lieu of right-arm pacer Gus Atkinson, England may have substituted 29-year-old Brydon Carse.
Jamie Smith, a young batsman and wicketkeeper, has also been named in the first 12 and appears to be in the running. His debut in the format will occur if he plays.
The England squad only managed to score 132 runs at Eden Gardens, and the sole notable moment was when captain Jos Buttler struck 68 off 44 deliveries as the other batsmen found it difficult to get going. In reply, the Indian batsmen used a brilliant effort from Abhishek Sharma to chase down the score in just 12.5 overs. Additionally, this meant that England would be 0-1 down in the five-match series going into the Chennai match.
When it comes to Jamie Smith’s career thus far, he has a respectable start, averaging 42.47 in the nine games he has participated in. However, after seven ODIs, he has had a lackluster run in white-ball cricket, averaging 22.17.
England’s 12-member squad: Ben Duckett, Phil Salt (wk), Jos Buttler (c), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood and Jamie Smith (in contention).
