The seasoned West Indian cricketer Darren Bravo has declared his intention to retire from playing international cricket.
The 34-year-old, who is well-known for his steady run-scoring in Caribbean cricket, took to social media to vent his frustration at being left out of the England One Day International series.
Darren Bravo was the top run scorer in the Super50 and an important player in regional competitions; thus, it was surprising that he wasn’t included in the starting lineup, which confused supporters and players alike.
Darren Bravo vented his fury on Instagram, describing how the lack of contact from selectors has left him in a “very dark place” and the difficulties of continuing to perform at your best in the absence of clear direction and support.
“I’ve given it some thought as to what my future move as a cricket player should be. At this stage of my career, finding the drive, enthusiasm, dedication, and self-control to play to the best of my abilities and position myself to return to international cricket is not simple, or perhaps I should say it requires a lot of work. Bravo said on Instagram, “I’ve been left in a very dark place without any level of communication.”
Darren Bravo stated that while he is not giving up, it is crucial to give the younger people an opportunity as well. He wished everyone the best and talked about how important it is to provide opportunities for up-and-coming talent. He went on to say that he had fulfilled his dream and wished the chosen athletes well in their future endeavors.
Three teams now compete for the region in various formats and series. That’s about 40–45 players, and they’re essentially telling me that the writing is on the wall if I can’t make any of these teams after competing in our regional tournaments and earning runs. Though I’m not giving up, I think it would be wise to take a temporary break and possibly make room for a new, up-and-coming talent. I’ll close by wishing everyone the best of luck. Bravo continued, “I’ve lived my dream.”
