With the T20 World Cup 2024 not happening, the ECB made the decision to fire head coach Matthew Mott for white-ball cricket. The management is keen to find a long-term solution while keeping the Champions Trophy in mind, despite the appointment of Marcus Trescothick as the interim coach. Although Freddie Flintoff, a former cricket player, has been connected to the position for some time, the ECB has not yet made any decisions.
Eoin Morgan, the captain of the 2019 World Cup winning team, was one of the contenders that generated a lot of speculation on social media.
The 37-year-old, however, disassociated himself from the part, saying that the timing was inappropriate. But Morgan listed four former cricket players who ought to be given the job.
Morgan’s first choice was Rahul Dravid, who led India to victory in the T20 World Cup. His recommendations were followed by those of Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and Brendon McCullum. Fleming is with the Super Kings, McCullum is the current coach of the England red-ball squad, and Ponting just parted ties with the Delhi Capitals but succeeded in the MLC with the Washington Freedom.
“Remember that this is one of the most resourceful cricket teams in the world—England—so Rob (Key) needs to do all in his power to make that role appealing. ‘Well, this is a job that you want to do as opposed to having to second guess it,’ Morgan said Sky Sports. You then go to the best coaches or highly renowned coaches in the world.
Right now, in my opinion, you should choose Brendon McCullum, Stephen Fleming, Ricky Ponting, and Rahul Dravid. He continued, “I think McCullum is one of the top coaches in the world, so that’s why I say that.

Captain Jos Buttler is also in a precarious situation right now. There are rumours that he will no longer serve as white-ball captain, but more information will surface during England’s forthcoming white-ball series against Australia, which kicks off on September 11.
