In the just finished first Test of the three-match series, India was behind New Zealand by 356 runs after the first innings. The game was still within their grasp, particularly when Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant were batting in the second innings at M Chinnswamy Stadium, despite the fact that the Rohit Sharma-led team was severely injured when they were bundled for just 46 runs in the first innings. Sarfaraz and Pant took care of the business after senior batsmen Rohit and Virat Kohli gave the squad a fantastic start with half-centuries each.
The pair put up a 177-run combination that put the home team back in the game. Notably, Rishabh took his time at first but then attacked, while Sarfaraz played an aggressive style of cricket and scored 150 runs. He left for 99 runs after dealing in boundaries near the end of his knock. Despite this, captain Rohit said Rishabh played a mature knock and was quite delighted with his effort.
In addition to praising Sarfaraz for his maturity, the 37-year-old said the 26-year-old had a clear idea of the style of cricket he intended to play in the second innings.
We were able to get back into the game thanks to a few pairings that were truly thrilling to see. We were proud of the effort even though we could have easily been bowled out cheaply.
When Sarfaraz and Pant are playing, everyone is on the edge of their seats. During the post-match conference, Rohit stated, “They enjoy playing the game that has brought them success.”
“Rishabh takes a lot of chances with his batting style, but I felt that was a mature innings in the game.” backed himself to play those shots as well after defending good balls and leaving a couple balls. Sarfaraz also demonstrated a high level of maturity. He is only in his fourth Test match, so he must have that level of maturity and have a clear idea of the shots he wants to take,” he continued.
