‘I thought he certainly handled it really well’- Experts praise CSK’s decision to give leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad

Having won the Indian Premier League (IPL) five times, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are perhaps one of the most successful teams in the league. Everywhere the team plays, there is a sizable fan base, and MS Dhoni is the guy who has been a team favourite.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, a youthful and promising opening batsman who took over as team captain last season, will take over for MS Dhoni as the team’s leader. Although the franchise and the former captain may have made this decision somewhat unexpectedly, it appears that the team is pleased with it. In addition to offering their thoughts on this leadership transition, the experts have commended the legend and the young person for their choice. Among the experts were Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener who is now a broadcaster, and Anil Kumble, a former Indian legend and 2009 IPL finalist.

“Rohit Sharma was surrounded by the game’s legends when he was appointed captain. The way you personally handle this obligation will determine how everything turns out. And Ruturaj handled it pretty well, in my opinion,” Kumble stated, as cited by JioHotstar.

“A captain with a lot of experience on the pitch may either be a strength or a liability. Some players may question whether they are truly in the lead or if the team is still looking to the previous captain. Aakash Chopra stated, “Dhoni’s personality is exceptional; he ensures the transition is seamless without overshadowing the new leader.”

Changes in captaincy for former CSK colleagues

The choice to hand over leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad is praised by both analysts and former CSK players. Robin Uthappa, a two-time IPL champion, and Shane Watson, a former CSK opener and outstanding all-rounder, have praised his colleagues.

“After CSK’s outstanding 2023 campaign, it became appropriate to transfer the leadership. Ruturaj and Dhoni both have rather composed dispositions. His performances will eventually show how much he has grown as a leader, Uthappa remarked.

“Ruturaj has performed admirably. Dhoni’s presence has put pressure on him, but it hasn’t stopped him from scoring runs. That demonstrates just how effectively CSK’s succession strategy is operating,” Watson said.
