Twitter Reactions: Fag end 3rd session ruins India's great day 1 in Mumbai

After losing Test matches against New Zealand in Bengaluru and Pune in quick succession, Team India was under extreme strain. However, the next six Test matches were crucial and threatened their hopes of making it to the third World Test Championship final. The Kiwis scored a respectable total since the Rohit Sharma-led team struggled primarily with the bat, but the bowlers also made several mistakes.

The spinners really came through on Day 1 of the third Test in Mumbai, helping India limit New Zealand to 235 runs in the opening innings. Tom Latham left after 28 runs, Rachin Ravindra scored four, and Devon Conway, who had an amazing series with the bat, was dismissed for just four runs. The BlackCaps were down to 72/3, and their prospects were not good.

The Kiwis then regained the match thanks to a vital 87-run partnership between Will Young and Daryl Mitchell. But after taking Young and Blundell out in quick succession, India regained the initiative. After scoring 71 runs, Young left. Mitchell scored 82 runs shortly after that and returned to the pavilion as well.

Washington Sundar ended New Zealand’s first innings with a four-fer, while senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was having a difficult time, took five wickets. New Zealand’s tail added some vital runs in the first and second Tests, which caused India problems, but in Mumbai, the tail only made 15 runs. They lost out on Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner, who were scoring runs at the back half.

In the meantime, Ravichandran Ashwin was unable to secure a wicket once more. For the Indian squad, it is a major worry in relation to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With the bat, India got off to a strong start in the second innings. Rohit Sharma, the captain, hit three boundaries before being dismissed for eighteen runs. After Ajaz Patel defeated him, the previous player left after 30 runs, although Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal took over.

Mohammed Siraj, who returned to the playing XI, was dismissed in the first ball after being sent as a night watchman.

This time, it brought Delhi-born cricketer Virat Kohli into the crease, where he attempted a dangerous single and was run out. He was disheartened after being dismissed for four runs, as India finished the day’s play at 86/4.

Here’s how the fans reacted to IND vs NZ third Test played in Mumbai:

That stumps on Day 1 and that last 15 minutes has brought New Zealand strongly back into the contest.
India at 86-4, trail by 149 runs !#INDvNZ

#INDvNZ #Wankhede
India imploding before the close of play after reaching 78 for 1 , loosing 3 wickets in 9 balls ! It’s against the run of play & seems to be advantage New Zealand for now ! Washington Sundar or Ravi Ashwin could have come in at the fall of Jaiswal ? Harakiri ?
