All-rounder Faheem Ashraf of Pakistan stressed the value of collaboration over individual efforts after his team lost to New Zealand by 84 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series. Pakistan had just dignity to lose in the series finale as the Kiwis took a decisive 2-0 lead in the Seddon Park match.
The Men in Green had a rough start and fell to 32/5 after New Zealand gave them a difficult total of 292. Despite his valiant efforts, the side was bowled out for 208 in the 42nd over, despite the left-handed batter getting 73 off 80.
During the post-game press conference, he emphasised that players should help one another instead than concentrating only on their own accomplishments.
Every single one of us is working to ensure that the team wins.
Faheem Ashraf told reporters, “I think it doesn’t work when you just concentrate on your own game, or if I come in, do my part, and step aside.”
Instead of concentrating just on individual results and then putting ourselves aside, we must support one another as a team. In cricket, winning is not hard as long as you’re playing. Everyone tries to adopt the same perspective. In the past, it has also occurred. Therefore, I say that it is not that hard; if you continue to play good cricket, you will undoubtedly win,” he continued.
Mitch Hay was the batting mainstay for New Zealand, scoring a spectacular 99 not out to assist his team reach a respectable score. Under duress, the Pakistani batting order broke down, with the top order making little to no contribution. Even though the all-rounder put up a fight in the middle order, the Kiwi bowlers remained dominant and won easily.
Pakistan will now play the third ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on April 5 in an effort to prevent a whitewash after losing the series already.
