Ahead of his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matchup against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 3 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, coach Dwayne Bravo has offered his opinions on the home advantage controversy. The former all-round player thinks that a team’s home crowd’s support, not the pitch, is their true advantage.
The former cricket player for the West Indies said he doesn’t know much about surfaces and thinks the team who does the best on the day wins. The KKR coach underlined that players should constantly evaluate the situation and modify their strategy accordingly.
“The crowd contribute to the home advantage. That, in my opinion, is more significant than the pitch’s performance.
Bravo told The Indian Express, “I can’t really comment on the pitches, but once the fans come in and support us, that makes a difference.”
“My knowledge of pitches is limited. The squad that performs the best during the day will win, in my opinion. Therefore, my advise to the players will always be to make the required evaluations and play in accordance with the conditions, regardless of how slow the pitch is or whether it is turning or not,” he continued.
The season has started off poorly for the reigning champions, who lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home by seven wickets. Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of KKR, voiced his dissatisfaction with the pitch conditions in Kolkata after the loss.
But in their second match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati, they recovered and won by eight wickets because to Quinton de Kock’s outstanding batting and the team’s outstanding bowling performance. They lost to the Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets in their third game, losing badly to Mumbai’s bowling attack and dropping to the bottom of the table. Their momentum was short-lived.
KKR is committed to making a comeback and reviving their season with a strong showing as they get ready to play SRH at home.
