No injuries in massive fire outbreak at Odisha Cricket Association conference hall

On Saturday afternoon, a sudden and tragic fire broke out inside the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Conference Hall, causing extensive property damage but mercifully resulting in no casualties or injuries in what could have been a major catastrophe.

The fire was thought to have been started by an electrical short circuit, which exploded around 2:15 PM, sending dense plumes of smoke up from the complex.

Odisha Cricket Association staff promptly notified the fire department, triggering a speedy response from Cuttack’s Buxi Bazar Fire Station.

Acting quickly, the firefighters were able to put the situation under control, stopping the fire from spreading further and limiting the damage. While the fires were quickly doused, the disaster destroyed critical equipment and furniture in the conference hall, seriously affecting the association’s functioning infrastructure.

Preliminary studies point to an electrical breakdown as the likely reason, but a comprehensive study is presently underway to discover the actual source of the outbreak. No injuries or casualties were reported, providing relief to OCA employees and cricket fans. “After being notified of the event, a team from Cuttack Fire Station arrived on the scene right once. After assessing the situation, we requested assistance from another crew. The fire was extinguished instantly. The thick smoke was eventually dispersed,” claimed Assistant Fire Officer Sanjeeb Behera, as reported by Odisha TV.

“We are suspecting that the fire might have been triggered by an air conditioner short circuit,” she said.

The incident has raised renewed concerns over fire preparedness and infrastructural safety at sporting institutions across the state, particularly those housing sensitive electrical systems.
