Indian devastating six-wicket loss to Australia in the final of the Cricket World Cup 2023 took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The recently finished One-Day International (ODI) competition may be the final World Cup appearance for some seasoned Indian players, including Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.

Having played in more than ten years of international cricket, these seasoned players may hang up their boots before the next World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will try to acquire some new players before these veterans retire so they can provide the same kind of outstanding performances to the squad in the 2027 World Cup as they did in the most recent ODI series.

Some young players have recently shown off their amazing abilities in domestic cricket; based on their results, it is possible that these players may represent India in the 2027 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, wearing the blue shirt.

1. Ravi Bishnoi

In the domestic circuit, Rav Bishnoi is renowned for his outstanding leg-break bowling. Since September 2019, when he began playing for Rajasthan in List A cricket, he has taken 36 wickets at an economy rate of 5.45 in 25 matches. He was given his ODI debut against South Africa in Lucknow in October 2022.

He dismissed Quinton de Kock in his eight-over session during his first-ever one-day match, but he also conceded 69 runs. The Indian team management didn’t select him for ODIs after this match, but because of his exceptional spin-bowling ability, he might receive chances in the future.

The 23-year-old showed promise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), in addition to the country’s domestic circuit. In 52 games, the rookie has claimed 53 wickets at an economy of 7.59. He can smash hitters with the googly, and he has used it to trap legends like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in the lucrative Twenty20 T20 event.

2. Arshdeep Singh

Mohammed Shami was the top wicket-taker of the 2023 World Cup, taking 24 wickets at an economy rate of 5.26 in seven matches. He looked amazing with the ball. In the event that the seasoned pacer is unable to return for the 2027 World Cup, Team India will search for a fast bowler who can step into his shoes.

Arshdeep Singh is among the contenders who might replace Shami in the starting lineup. The 24-year-old is an excellent seam bowler who can outsmart batsmen by swinging the bat both ways. He has demonstrated his exceptional skills in T20 Internationals (T20Is).

He is the second Indian bowler to reach 50 wickets in the quickest 50-over version of cricket. In just 33 T20Is, the youthful pacer accomplished the feat. After three games, his ODI performance hasn’t lived up to expectations, but his talent may still allow him to play for India in the 2027 World Cup.

3. Tilak Varma

Following his incredible batting performance for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2022 Indian Premier League, Tilak Varma gained attention. The left-handed hitter finished as the team’s second-leading run scorer with 397 runs scored in 14 games. Once more, Varma displayed his batting prowess in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for 2022–2023.

This time, he finished as Hyderabad’s second-highest run scorer in the competition with 402 runs, two tons, and a fifty in seven games. Varma has established himself in domestic cricket and could establish himself as a regular in the Indian ODI team in the next years.

Varma’s aggressive batting approach can help his team make quick progress in the game since he is an excellent counter to pacers and spinners. He wore the India shirt for the first time in ODI cricket against Bangladesh in the 2023 Asia Cup encounter, however he was unable to muster a reliable blow with the bat. The 21-year-old’s goal is to establish himself on the national team in order to qualify for India’s debut World Cup in 2027.

4. Umran Malik

The management of the Indian team would try to devote its efforts to Umran Malik, who has a lightning fast speed. With a constant speed of 150 km/h or more, the vicious speedster can be a very dangerous opponent for hitters. He played his first ODI against New Zealand in Auckland in November 2022.

He has since taken 13 wickets at a costly economy of 6.54 in nine innings. Before the 2023 Asia Cup, the team management removed him from the squad due to his inability to contain runs. In addition to the regional competition, the speedster was not selected for India’s 2023 World Cup squad.

Umran will push himself to improve his performance and establish himself as a reliable bowler for the national team after missing the most recent ODI event. He could have amazing ball handling skills in Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, the three countries hosting the 2027 World Cup.

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has performed admirably in List A cricket with his bat. In 32 games, the southpaw has amassed 1511 runs at an incredible average of 53.96. He had an incredible season with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) bat in the 2023 Indian Premier League. With 625 runs in 14 games at a 163.61 strike rate, he finished as the tournament’s fifth-highest run scorer.

His spirited league form earned him a place in the Indian Test and Twenty20 teams. The team management will be keenly monitoring the 21-year-old’s batting in the following days, and if he can help the side with some outstanding blows, selectors may decide to call him up for one-day internationals.

With his incredible 203 off 154 deliveries against Jharkhand in Alur in 2019, Jaiswal became the first Mumbai batsman to reach a double century in List A cricket. Based on his domestic statistics, he could develop into India’s ideal top-order batsman in the future. The youthful player will want to replace the icon as an opener since Rohit Sharma is probably nearing the conclusion of his career.
