In match No. 46 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowled exceptionally effectively on Sunday, April 27, limiting the Delhi Capitals (DC) to 162/8 in their 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
In the intense match, Rajat Patidar’s choice to win the toss and bowl first paid off. Once again, Abishek Porel got his team off to a fast start, but Faf du Plessis, who had been sidelined due to injury, appeared rusty at the end. Karun Nair’s hopes were raised after Porel was dismissed for a 28 from 11 balls, but the veteran fell cheaply.
Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul combined for just 28 runs from 31 balls, unable to mount an offensive against the RCB bowlers. Together, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma bowled superbly, with some surface support.
Krunal dismissed Faf for a 22 off 26 balls. Rahul and Axar Patel attempted to up the stakes, but the DC skipper was unable to turn his start into anything significant. Rahul scored a 41 from 39 balls before leaving in the 17th over. In the same over that DC collapsed to 120/6, Ashutosh Sharma also fell.
To get DC to 162/8 in their 20 overs, Vipraj Nigam and Tristan Stubbs both hit maximums in the final overs. This score, though, appears to be a little below average. For comparison, this is the lowest IPL first innings total in eight Delhi games since 2024.
Josh Hazlewood took two wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three. Krunal and Yash Dayal both contributed a wicket in the interim.
Hazlewood stated during the mid-innings break that taking a rest before the event allowed him to refuel both physically and emotionally. He also praised Bhuvneshwar’s Sunday ball-handling effort.
“Everything feels wonderful. I think I’m improving with each game. returning following a brief hiatus prior to the competition. I suppose that gave me a mental and physical boost. I’ve had a good run up to the crease. It’s difficult to read. Perhaps the easiest part is getting started. “It is a difficult deck to read,” Hazlewood admitted in an interview with JioHotstar.
“The surroundings are favourable. Nice group of men. In Bangalore, the weather is lovely. Everything is going smoothly. Away from home, we’re doing great. It is about delivering and carrying out the procedure. You do that frequently and still don’t get any wickets. Sometimes the hard work was done by Bhuvi. “Well done,” the Australian pacer continued.
